The official journey toward “The Wilsons” all started on April 20, 2017 when John rented kayaks and took me out to an island in the middle of the Tampa Bay in Clearwater, FL. Unbeknownst to me prior to our Florida vacation, John was a “level 11” kayaking expert from back in his grade school days. I, on the other hand, was about to jump onto a kayak for the first time in my life. Our friends Kyle Peterson and Jackie Collins were on a kayak next to us at the time. John, being of excessive competitive nature, somehow remained extremely calm and encouraging throughout the entire trip despite my less than elegant rowing skills. Now it is very clear that his unwavering patience had much to do with the proposal he had planned at the end of the kayaking adventure. This is just one of the many examples of the occasions in which John demonstrated the patience that love sometimes demands, and I could not have said yes to a better offer than spending the rest of my life with this amazing man.

OUR FIRST DATE

John borrowed his friend’s backyard and transformed it into a romantic venue for our dinner date.

OUR FIRST KISS

After dinner, we decided to stroll the streets of London. And this little alley was a witness to our first kiss.

From Jane

It seems like just yesterday that a blue-eyed Englishman sat next to me in Anatomy and Physiology at West Virginia Wesleyan College. John’s enrollment in Anatomy was short lived, and I “didn’t get out much” as we embarked on our undergraduate degrees. As our final semester at WVWC was coming to a close, I bravely decided to become more social and our friendship was rekindled. After graduation, Tom moved to Pittsburgh for the summer and I volunteered to show him the ins and outs of the Steel City. Before I knew it I went from tour guide, to best friend, to girlfriend, to fiance within two years. I could not feel more grateful that everything came together for us as it did and I cannot wait to be John’s tour guide, best friend, and wife for the rest of our lives as a team, a club, a two-person gang.

From John

It is only fitting that my first American Girl crush ended up being my last. I first scoped Jane out in the Fall of 2011, and unsuccessfully attempted to make her mine. I guess it just wasn’t our time just yet with our college lives following separate roads – I obviously took the fun road. Our paths seemingly did not cross throughout the rest of our undergraduate degrees, and I was fairly certain that Jane had transferred. To my great surprise, Jane resurfaced from what I imagine to be a dark cave, and became a consistent figure in my life in our final semester. As I worked out the kinks in my life and took the final steps towards adulthood, Jane was my constant. Throughout our friendship I started to notice a trend in my life. Everything I thought was good became great, everything fun became exciting, and lust became love. Although our journey may not have began like fairy tale, I know we are destined for a story book ending.
